Blizzard of 2009

Well, here we are... 24 hours and 36 inches of snow!! Chris said the last time he remembers this much snow here before Christmas, he wasn't much older than Abby. It started last night about 5:00PM and has been snowing here since. At times there were the biggest flakes coming down that I think I had ever seen! Abby was up at 6:00am and I had to bribe her with hot cocoa with marshmallows, but as soon as Mikaylah was up and fed, they were both bundled up and out in the snow. It came up past both of their knees and it was hard to walk in, but that didn't stop them from having a great time! Chris helped his uncle scrape the lane, and although it took a long time, they made a lot of headway. Church has been canceled and we won't get out tomorrow, but neither will a lot of people here in the valley. Don't worry about us... we are well stocked with water, milk, bread... and lots of hot cocoa and marshmallows!! Those are the essentials of this snowy adventure!

Snow in Virginia!!!

Have you ever heard the old phrase, watch what you wish for?? Well, I had been telling everyone that I wanted lots and lots of snow this year, not for myself, but for the girls.

Abby was 2 the last time she saw it snow (real snow... not the snow we had for a few hours in Arizona) and Mikaylah has NEVER seen it snowing. We have taken them to play in the snow, but... it isn't the same thing!

Well, this year Abby asked for a bike for Christmas, and I didn't have the heart to buy her a bike she wouldn't get to use for a long time, so I had the BRILLIANT idea of buying them sleds! So I went out one Saturday and looked and looked and finally found sleds... on a day that it was 50-60 degrees, so needless to say I got some funny looks as I asked for and loaded the sleds in the car. That being said... come last Saturday I was the mommy, heroine, queen, princess, etc. of the year when I had brand new sleds to go with the snow!

Enjoy the pictures, because we are definitely enjoying the adventure we call life!

"This is the beginning of a new day. You have been given this day to use as you will. You can waste it or use it for good. What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever; in its place is something that you have left behind...let it be something good."

As young children, every day was seen as a new adventure. Perhaps today you would be a magical fairy princess that saved her world from certain doom... all with the magic of a pink umbrella! Or perhaps you and a band of friends suddenly were explorers not of just a new world, but a new planet, discovering new plant and animal life, that surprisingly looked a lot like your golden retriever named Freddy. No matter what happened, you always knew that tomorrow brought another adventure for you... and then we grew up.

Today we are adults and responsibilities keep us from becoming princesses and astronauts, but my husband and I came to a decision. These responsibilities only make for more of an adventure... in life!

I am Katie, author of this blog and director of this adventure we call life. I am a stay at home mom to two beautiful daughters, Abigail and Mikaylah. Since January of 2008 I have been homeschooling my oldest daughter, Abigail, and that in itself is an adventure. My youngest daughter will be attending kindergarten in a traditional charter school. My loving husband Chris, assistant director is a self proclaimed computer geek and a wonderful husband and father.

Join us as we continue along on this adventure that we call life!
